Many years ago 8GB of RAM was enough for running most of your everyday applications such as browsing, and some other installed apps such as Office or simple gaming apps that are low on resource consumption. Gaming apps with more intense applications would require much more resources and 32GB would be more adequate.

Today, most apps will require more RAM including your favorite browser that is more than just a browser because there are a lot of web based applications that require more local resources to pre-load and be able to run smoothly so that the processor is not demanding your storage to do part of the workload to save those temporary resources that need to be stored in order to be able to run.

Therefore, a computer today would need 16GB of RAM as a new standard, double the size from a decade ago.
